#46 Set a big goal to rally your team around

Set a big goal to rally your team

Reading time: ~1 min.

Enjoy this week’s email….because who doesn’t want a sales bluebird every week???

Looking for a way to fire up your B2B sales team?

Try setting a big goal for them to rally around. In fact, make it a big, hairy audacious goal, a BHAG.Why is this concept so powerful?

  • People need more than a paycheck to be motivated. Yes, even salespeople!!!!

    • It's about what the money actually means to us. Earlier retirement, ability to give back, nice vacation

  • We, as human beings, want to have a connection to a bigger purpose, dream, or ideal.

  • Daniel Pink calls it purpose, Susan Fowler calls it connection.

There are 2 ways to create your BHAG...

  1. Make it a big goal to move towards, like...

    1. do something that has never been done (e.g. new business growth)

    2. being #1 eg new logos in 1H

    3. being known for something (e.g. pipeline generation)

    4. lowest discounters

    5. the most customers live and receiving value

  2. Make it something you beat that's bad, like

    1. hackers

    2. a bad competitor

    3. a poor prior year

Top tip: instead of calling your weekly team call "weekly team call"...call it something related to the BHAG (e.g. “the #1 team in pipeline generation call")Top tip: involve your team in setting the BHAG.  Get them to think big and wide!Once you and your team have a BHAG, embed it in everything you do!Here's a link to the Sales Bluebird episode for more>>>

Time for a dad joke break...

I read that by law you must turn on your headlights when it’s raining in Sweden, but how am I supposed to know when it’s raining in Sweden?
